SGMUN 2025 took place in St. Gallen, 20-24 November. A 4-person delegation from ETH attended the sold-out conference. The opening ceremony was followed on Thursday evening by a game night social complete with pizza and an open bar, where the committees competed against each other across 6 challenges. During the night, snow started falling and would not stop for over 24 hours, giving the participants the first taste of Winter.
The debate commenced on Friday at various beautiful buildings around the center of the city. There were 7 committees: UNESCO and IAEA for beginners, the Security Council and the Papal Conclave for intermediates, and the Supreme Soviet of the USSR and the House of Representatives of the U.S. pitted against each other in a crisis for experts. The lineup was completed by the International Press Corps.
2 of our delegates participated in the crisis, one on the side of the USSR (as Valentin Varennikov), the other on the side of the U.S. (Tom Lantos). The third member of our delegation participated in the Conclave, tasked with electing a new pope, as Jean-Marc Aveline. Last, but not least, I represented the BBC, reporting on the IAEA, in the Press Corps.
In the evenings following the game night, we enjoyed a raclette dinner, and a gala at Pfalzkeller, the latter of which was followed by a karaoke party.
Finally the closing ceremony rolled around in no time, at the beautiful Kantonsraatsal, where I had the honor of being nominated best delegate in the Press Corps.
