On Friday the 4th of April 2024 a small, 2 person delegation made its way to Mannheim to represent ETH MUN at MAMUN. I was on the committee simulating the Arab League (AL) representing Qatar, discussing workforce mobility, education reforms and sustainable employment policies. Florian Kortstiege represented the United Nations in the International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ), seeking transitional justice in Syria.
The AL took a very worker friendly approach, uncharacteristic of the Gulf states. Debate continued long into the afternoon on Sunday. Voting on the resolution ended up being quite chaotic, but we managed to pass the resolution unanimously, making it binding. The quality of the debate was much higher on the ICTJ. They passed a communique, albeit a short one as voting was done clause by clause and many of them were voted down.
Our delegation enjoyed Greek and German cuisine in the old town of Mannheim, before attending engaging socials with free drinks. We had a great time chatting with delegates from England, Belgium and various parts of Germany. Despite the best efforts of Deutsche Bahn, we made it home before the end of the day on Sunday the 6th of April.
