Last week’s session has been marked by the unexpected arrival of a Taliban delegation. Having been deprived of voting rights, the two Taliban delegates could be nonetheless called on the floor by other member states. This possibility has been used first and foremost by China. The debate has been suspended in the wake of numerous proposals for investments into pivotal Afghan infrastructure. Again, most ideas have been proposed by the Chine delegation. We are curious to witness in the coming session the extent to which the major world powers will try to secure their interests in the region.
